Job Details

This team supports external users. Someone who has a support background will be a bit quicker to get up-to-speed as there is quite a large amount of knowledge and learning required in the role. Knowing how to communicate complex things over the phone is very important. Willing to review candidates without support experience so long as they are willing to be client facing and understand the role they would be fulfilling for the end-user.

1/3 of their day will be engaged with customers. 1/3 spent on customer issues while they are working. The rest of the time spent on learning new technologies. The team has resources available for these contractors to learn from.

This team is the only team that supports this product line. So they handle all forms of the escalations. This customer is not dealing with “Mission Critical” applications. There is an escalation channel, this sponsor’s team is the first line of defense. It is not the structured in your typical “Tier 1, Tier 2”, style due to the type of product they are interacting with.

Is there a “most common” incident? There is not a lot of volume in general, and there is a very broad set of technologies that we support and use. There is a lot of collaborative support on our tickets because it’s not always possible for one person to know all the technologies. I want this person to be much more in tuned and experienced with statistical analysis and R programming. Some people are very strong from an infrastructure standpoint, but they are statisticians, we need this gap filled. This programming side is the focus for this role.

+ BS degree in Computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field with 2 years of relevant analytics experience.

+ Must have experience programming using R or S-Plus

+ Experience on multiple operating systems helpful, Windows, Ubuntu and RedHat Linux.

+ Experience with Map/Reduce and Hadoop a plus

+ Good writing and communication skills are needed

1 R Programming (2+ years)

2 Experience with Statistical Analysis (2+ years)

3 Linux and Hadoop experience needs to have an understanding of these, no minimum requirements, but previous work experience needed.

**Years of Experience:** 2 years of statistical analysis. Looking for someone who has Data analyst or data scientist in their previous experience. They need to have the R programming experience. Very open to what environment or background they come from. Open to those without MSFT experience. If they have MSFT experience, we need someone who has at least one year of access available.

+ Hadoop experience not super specific on which version as this isn’t the primary focus skill on this role. Familiarization a plus. Will be adding this experience within training for the role.

If this person has absolutely no knowledge of Linux, then they will not meld well into this role. They don’t even need to know the Systems Administration standpoint, necessarily, although this is ideal. We don’t want someone who has always been a Windows person. Also candidates who are interested in working non-collaboratively will not do well. Although there is an independence to the role. Also, this person needs to be good at customer service.
